Visioning Paueru Gai with Graphic Recording

Project Overview

Elkplan teamed up with Drawing Change to serve as graphic recorder for the Powell Street Festival Visioning Paueru Gai event. This event brought together a diverse group of residents, stakeholders, and community members. It focused on a Public Spaces Project aimed at memorializing the history of the Japanese Canadian community in Paueru Gai, or the Powell Street Neighborhood in the Downtown Eastside.

Purpose

The goal was to engage the community in meaningful discussions about how to honor and celebrate their rich history. We aimed to gather insights and ideas that would shape the future of public spaces in the neighborhood.

Outcomes

Elkplan created a vibrant graphic recording of the conversations, capturing key themes and ideas that emerged throughout the day. Additionally, we provided verbal summaries of the drawings at key moments, ensuring everyone stayed connected to the discussion.

Impact

Our work helped to visualize the community's thoughts and aspirations for Paueru Gai. The graphic recordings will serve as a valuable resource for future planning and initiatives, fostering a deeper understanding of the neighborhood's heritage, and shared vision.
